Fri March 5th: Choose your Own Adventure Apps Due

Early Outreach at Western and the CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE CONFERENCE (CYOA) Students decide their future educational pathways at an early age.

In Ontario, approximately three-fourths of all students make the decision to attend university before age 15; one-third decide before they turn nine years old.

In order to help encourage young individuals to attend post-secondary education, the University Students’ Council and the University of Western Ontario are embarking on our fourth annual leadership conference for Grade 8 students in the City of London to help facilitate access to resources and information about attending college, university or the skilled trades.

In addition to targeting students who are already leaders in their schools and community, volunteers will be reaching out to groups who are traditionally under-represented in post-secondary education, namely Aboriginal, first-generation Canadian, and low-income students.

This project requires the leadership and passion of young leaders in the Western community.

Both executives, who will help plan the conference, and leadership developers, who will facilitate the conference itself, are needed. Executive responsibilities range from grade 8 student recruitment to programming and fundraising. Leadership developers will act as conference facilitators.
